Is It Just Me?

I got up early so that I could go to the store and buy some food for the fridge, I made sure to buy canned stuff and other things that didn't have to be refridgerated. I'm kinda preparing for something big to happen, like the apocalypse or something, cause of all the wierd stuff that's happened lately. The storms have been getting worse, my rain catcher gets fuller every day. Its a good thing I live on the fourth floor in case of a flood.

On the way back from one of several trips to the grocery store, as I was putting my key in the door, a man knocked me over along with all my cans and boxes of food. As my precious resources rolled away, the man began to run away without an apology. It wasn't worth the effort to chase him down; I cursed my luck, I would probably have to make another trip to the grocery store to replace all the broken cans. As I got up and was bending to pick up my food, I heard the sound of elevator shoes from around the corner. I had a sudden feeling of anxiety and started to run away, leaving my food, so that I could escape from the ones coming for me. I ran down the stairs faster than I ever have before, not once lookig back. My mind was racing as I tried to think of where to go.

I figured they couldn't find me if I was in a group of people so I ran as fast as I could to the block party near work and hung out near the entrance to the liquor store. As the party started to die down, I had to find another group to hover around to avoid being caught. I decided somewhere inside would be best, so I went to the theatre. I walked casually over to the theatre, as to not draw attention to myself, ready at any moment to burst into break-neck speed at the sound of those shoes.

Luckily, I made it all the way there without being seen. As I entered the main room, I saw the man who had run into me this morning. Instead of confronting him, I followed him around in hopes of finding out who he was. His name was Lucas, a playwright hopeful, I personally hoped he never acheived this dream because of how he treated me earlier.

I left shortly after, I didn't want to pay for a play that he was a part of. I ran home as it was getting dark. On my hall I noticed that all my food was gone, there wasn't a single trace of the mess I had fled from earlier in the day. I realized I had left my key in the door earlier and that it was no longer in the lock as I entered the unlocked door cautiously. On the table I found my key and and a note that said, "You should be more careful, don't leave your key in the lock next time."

I froze with terror, they had been in my apartment. My last refuge that I thought I could keep secret. They might have planted wires or something in my walls. I decided then and there that I had to leave, only taking my valuables with me. As I collected my things, I planned where I would go, in this weather I could not sleep outside. Then I remembered something someone had said near me at the block party, there were some protesters in the field near the apartment building and that it seemed that they had an extra tent.

As I approached the group of tents in the dark, I discovered that I did not know which tent was empty. I slowly crept around listening to each tent for a sound inside. After what seemed like an hour of standing outside in the rain I found the empty tent and silently snuck in and settled in for a safe night's sleep.
